Terms of Use

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Underbonnet at underbonnet.app ("the service"), operated by Lawrence Weetman (Burnsfield House, PE16 6NF). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. You are responsible for ensuring your use complies with laws that apply to you.

3. Beta service

Underbonnet is currently offered as a beta. The service is provided as is and as available. Features may change, be added, or be withdrawn without notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, or that the service will meet your specific requirements.

4. Your account

Access is via passwordless magic link sent to your email address. Keep that inbox secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. Notify us promptly at info@underbonnet.app if you suspect unauthorised access.

5. Your vehicle and log data

You retain ownership of the content you add. By entering a vehicle registration or creating a log for a car, you confirm that it is your vehicle or that you have the owner's permission to record data about it.

You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, display, and process your content solely to operate and improve the service — including showing content you choose to make public and generating exports you request.

6. Photos, rights, and fair-use limits

By uploading a photo, you confirm you have the rights to upload it and to grant us the licence above, including the right to display it on the service (and on a public car page if you enable one).

We may remove or disable images that violate these Terms, appear unlawful, infringe third-party rights, or pose a safety or abuse risk.

Photo uploads are subject to per-item fair-use limits that depend on your plan:

• Car gallery: up to 12 photos per car gallery; up to 500 photos per car gallery on premium.
• Trip entry: not available on the free plan; up to 100 photos per trip entry on premium.
• Job entry: up to 2 photos per job entry; up to 500 photos per job entry on premium.
• Car profile banner: up to 1 photo per car profile banner; up to 1 photo per car profile banner on premium.
• Fitted part: up to 1 photo per fitted part; up to 50 photos per fitted part on premium.
• Show or meet entry: up to 2 photos per show or meet entry; up to 500 photos per show or meet entry on premium.
• Each uploaded image must be 2 MB or smaller (JPEG, PNG, or WebP).
• Trip and fuel entry photos are available on premium accounts only. Limits apply per parent item (for example, per job), not across your whole car.

We may adjust limits to keep the service sustainable. Material changes will be reflected in these Terms.

7. Public pages

Public car pages are opt in and default to private. If you publish a page, you are responsible for the information shown, including ensuring you do not expose third-party personal data without permission.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the service for unlawful purposes or to harass, abuse, or harm others;
• upload content you do not have rights to, or that is defamatory or infringing;
• attempt to probe, scrape, or overload the service without permission;
• impersonate another person or misrepresent vehicle ownership;
• circumvent security, usage limits, or access controls.

We may suspend or terminate access for conduct that risks the service, other users, or our legal position.

9. Third-party data (DVSA)

MOT history lookup uses the UK DVSA MOT History API. That data is provided by third parties and may be incomplete or outdated. We do not warrant its accuracy. Your use must comply with DVSA's applicable terms.

10. Not professional advice

Underbonnet is a record-keeping tool. Log entries, exports, community content (if introduced), curated suggestions, and any future AI assistant output are not professional mechanical, engineering, or safety advice. Maintenance and repair decisions are your responsibility. Verify safety-critical work independently and consult a qualified specialist where appropriate.

11. Exports and service logs

PDF and other exports are provided for your convenience as a service log or workshop record. They are not certified provenance documents, inspection certificates, or guarantees of vehicle condition. How third parties rely on an export is outside our control.

12. Premium plans and payment (future)

Some features may require a paid premium plan. When billing launches, payment is expected to be processed by Stripe (or another designated provider). Prices, billing intervals, and cancellation terms will be shown before you pay. Statutory consumer rights that apply to you are not affected.

13. Sponsored and curated suggestions (future)

From time to time we may show curated or sponsored supplier suggestions related to a job or part you are logging. Sponsored placements will be identifiable as such. We are not responsible for third-party products or services you choose to purchase.

14. Our intellectual property

The Underbonnet name, branding, software, and design are owned by or licensed to us. These Terms do not grant you any rights in our intellectual property except the limited right to use the service as intended.

15. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

Subject to that, our total liability to you for all claims arising from or relating to the service in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid us for the service in that period, or (b) zero if you use the free tier.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profits, loss of data beyond our reasonable control, or reliance on user-generated or third-party content.

16. Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time from Account settings. We email a confirmation link before closure takes effect. After confirmation, sign-in stops; contact us within 14 days if the closure was a mistake. Live data is retained for 28 days for recovery, then permanently deleted (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or end access if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the service. Provisions that by nature should survive (including liability limits and your content licence for items already shared or backed up) will survive termination.

17. Changes

We may update these Terms. The date at the top shows the current version. Material changes will be highlighted when you sign in. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.

18. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Courts in England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
